American Location Names: The Story Behind Them
The book documents the etymology behind a select group of contemporary American location names for states, regions, cities, rivers, parks, colleges and universities. Many of these names came from early colonial powers, religious holy works, war heroes, presidents and founding fathers, inventors, industrialists, and entertainment personalities. Some names came out of conflict, others were decided for convenience. Many names from Native Americans still are in use today. The book also summarizes the source of many highly suggestive names that are in use today.
